Lake Huron is the 2nd largest
of the Great Lakes and the 3rd largest fresh water lake in the
world. Lake Huron has a surface area of over 23,000 square
miles and an average depth of 190 feet, with a maximum depth
of 755 feet. Lake Huron has the longest shoreline of the
Great Lakes, counting the shoreline of it's 30,000 + islands.
Every year, thousands of
anglers set a course for Saginaw Bay, Michigan and the Great
Lake Huron for vacation because Lake Huron walleye fishing is
some of the best walleye fishing in the country.
In the summer, the waters
begin to warm, and walleye tend to move into deeper areas of
Lake Huron. Walleye fishing can be quite successful with the
use of deepwater crankbaits, especially if you target islands,
inlets running into deep water, and sunken reefs, since
walleye like to hold in these areas while in transition to the
deeper waters. If you want to hit a real hot spot, you should
visit the Tawas Bay at the north end of the lake.
Salmon, Steelhead, Muskie, Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, and
Smallmouth Bass are also caught in Lake Huron.

Lake Huron Fishing Report
King Salmon are still being taken in close
to shore and out as far as 90 to 100 feet of water. Try
fishing the top 20 feet of water for best results. Best lures
have been small Pro Kings, Silver Streaks and Dreamweaver
lures in Yellows, Greens, Orange, Blues, Screw Balls,
Blueberry Muffin, and Black colors with white or glow.
Coho Salmon are being taken in the same
areas using bright colors like orange, yellow, chartreuse or
red for best results.
Lake Trout are being taken in 70 to 120 feet
of water using dodgers with spin and glows and small spoons
fished close to the bottom. Try pink, orange, green or silver
colors. Plain spoons trolled fast (2.5 mile per hour) have
been working well too fishing top to bottom.
Bass fishing is still good inside the harbor
casting or trolling body baits and spinners. Steelhead are
being taken North of the harbor in 45 to 120 feet of water.
Best lures have been the Orange or bright Pink Dreamweavers or
Silver Streaks. Don’t fish too deep, they have been coming in
the top ten to twenty feet of water.
